Happy New Year!
Quick question.
I am currently working with a H.S. student who has had several strokes. She has been identified as deaf-blind and has started using a cane. No hearing in one ear, mild loss in other ear, no vision in one eye and hemianopsia in other eye, one half of body is effected so she has use of one arm and walks with a limp.
We have gotten her started with a laptop with zoomtext on it but we have run into difficulties with her carrying the laptop home and climbing stairs.
Does anyone have suggestions of a way that she could get Zoomtext home to do homework? The district is telling us she can't install the program at home. We have talked about her using a memory stick to carry files.
Another program or device that is lighter and can be carried home and around school? She is very visual so a braille notetaker did not work.
Thanks in advance

Dear Supporters,
I am very happy to share my good news with all of you. Dr. Jean Hebeler, Chair of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Honors Committee, called me this evening to let me know that I have been selected as the 2007 Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year. I cannot begin to thank you enough for all the day-to-day support you have given me over the years, plus the wonderful letters of support that you provided to the honors committee.
It is most fitting that the location for the 2007 National CEC Convention and Expo is Louisville, Kentucky, home to the American Printing House for the Blind and the Kentucky School for the Blind. We should all take pride in the fact that the teacher of the year representing all exceptional children will this year also be a teacher of the visually impaired.
I will do my very best to represent all the deserving teachers of the visually impaired, as well as the students, parents, and mentors upon whom we all rely for our enthusiastic dedication to this field.
Again, my sincere thanks and best wishes for this holiday season and a very happy new year!
Susan
