The Department of Teaching and Learning at Northern Illinois University is 
seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure track position in the 
area of visual disabilities and orientation and mobility. The qualified 
candidate is expected to be an exemplary educator who can contribute to 
both undergraduate and graduate programs in special education. The 
Department of Teaching and Learning is a broad-based department, with 
programs serving majors in early childhood education, elementary education, 
special education, and curriculum and instruction (environmental education, 
secondary education, and curriculum leadership).

Responsibilities:  Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas 
of  visual disabilities and orientation and mobility; conducting research 
and writing grants appropriate to his or her scholarly interests related to 
the position; advising graduate students;  and involvement in department, 
college, and university service.

Required: Earned doctorate in Special Education by time of appointment; a 
minimum of three years of teaching experience in special education for 
students with visual disabilities and/or orientation and mobility; and a 
record of scholarship in areas related to the position.

Preferred: Priority will be given to candidates who have experience 
teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, experience procuring 
grants, and substantial experience working with people who have visual 
disabilities.
