[AERNet] Fwd: eye conditions

The preferred lighting would be incandescent. We know they are not going to
rip out all the overheads and replace them. Two things I know about
fluorescent lights:
1. having a good/new ballast is important. It keeps the flicker constant.
When the ballast goes things can get ugly. See
http://home.howstuffworks.com/fluorescent-lamp.htm for a good overview of
fluorescent lighting.
2. getting a bulb with a good spectrum. I replace all the lights in my
office with full spectrum or natural light fluorescents.

After running around on the web a bit (love a good bunny trail), I also
found out about filters for fluorescent lights (who would have thought!)
that control the UV, balance the spectrum, and control the amount of light.
See

Ok, the brilliant people on this list might be my salvation for the day.
Here are my two questions: to improve really bad overhead fluorescent
lighting in classroom, what kind of replacement fluorescent bulbs would you
recommend? The school is willing to change them out if I can give them the
correct information. And the abbreviation of "CMA"? It is listed as a
diagnosis in a report (and I would call the OD but mother won't give
permission to contact him. Sigh.)

Thanks. I will sit by the computer and wait for my answers. You are the
best!

Hello,
I have a student diagnosed with chorioretinitis. The eye report
reads as CMV chorioretinitis. Would anyone know what the initials
CMV stand for as well as HM as an accuity reading for the left eye?
Eye reports are usually an enigma for vision teachers.
   Thank you.
   R. Ash
