A great book to read on that subject is Anna Swenson's "Beginning
with Braille: Firsthand Experiences with a Balanced Approach to
Literacy" published by AFB Press and available in braille from
National Braille Press. It's a wonderful book--very practical,
teacher friendly, and fits in beautifully with what we know about
reading from research--the balance of skills and meaning. It's very
learner-centered, and works great within the regular classroom.
