Hi Kimberley, why wouldn't these young people be able to do whatever is
fulfilling to them? Computers are the main accommodation and there's no
reason a for=-profit company wouldn't want to take advantage of tax
credits in order to fund the accommodation of assistive technology.

Check out www.CareerConnect.org to find a wide array of professional
careers involving blind and visually impaired people!

If funding is an issue he state blindness agency or VR might be a
resource.

Why would you expect any less of blind students than sighted one?

Thanks, Kim!
Annemarie

Subject: [AERNet] jobs performed with few to no accommodations by blind

Question: I'm working with a group of blind and visually impaired
young people in terms of advising them on potential careers that are
both fulfilling and realistic. I am curious to know what jobs requiring
a college degree are out there that require little to no accommodation
for people who are blind or visually impaired to perform. Or, if the
jobs require accommodation, ways a blind or visually impaired employee
successfully funds those accommodations h/herself so as not to place
hardship upon the employer, while still maintaining a decent standard of
living. I believe that discovering the answers to this question is the
key to getting the 75% unemployment rate down among working-age people
who are blind or visually impaired.
