I'm Kinyatti Gakuhi a Salus university O&M student.
I have observed young individuals with progressive eye conditions resisting
using white cane because of perceived stigma of “advertising” their visual
impairment. Safe, efficient and effective use of travel skills are
predictors of employment and independence among young adults. My question
therefore is:
What is being done to change the negative perception of white cane among
young people, who are mostly in environments of sighted individuals such as
schools? Your responses will be much appreciated.
