  1. Human Resource Guide for Working with Employees Experiencing Vision

Loss: This new guide on our
https://www.ntac.blind.msstate.edu/businesses/ NTAC-BVI website provides
useful information for HR staff who are helping employees who experience
vision loss maintain employment. It is especially helpful for HR supervisors
who are unfamiliar with blindness or low vision. It is formatted in two
ways: a regular PDF and a booklet format to be printed.

  1. Applications for the Vision Specialist in Vocational Rehabilitation

graduate certificate program are now open. The online program consists of
four graduate courses designed to provide specialized training to vocational
rehabilitation counselors and vision rehabilitation professionals to become
more effective in their work with consumers who are blind or visually
impaired. If funding is received, approximately 12 students will be awarded
stipends. Those interested in attending the program can find more
information by contacting Sylvia Stinson-Perez at
mailto:sperez@colled.msstate.edu sperez@colled.msstate.edu or through the
Vision Specialist web site at  http://www.distance.msstate.edu/vision/
www.distance.msstate.edu/vision/.

  1. In July, we added four new, free online courses. All four are on our

https://www.ntac.blind.msstate.edu/courses/ NTAC-BVI Continuing Education
page.

a.      Case Documentation provides an overview of the importance and
purpose of high-quality case documentation when working with individuals
with visual impairments. It is worth two CRC credit hours.

b.      Basics of Blindness & Low Vision provides a foundation on critical
matters within this multidisciplinary field. It is targeted to individuals
and professionals who are new to the field of blindness and low vision. It
is worth one credit hour.

c.      The Role of the Family of an Older Individual with Vision Loss
examines psychosocial adjustment to vision loss and the role of family
members in the adjustment process. This is a text-based course worth one
credit hour.

d.      Identifying Mental Health Impairments for Seniors helps
professionals identify mental health conditions in seniors, and resources
for seniors with mental health conditions. This is a text-based course worth
two credit hours.
