Hi,
You are receiving this message because you are subscribed to the AER Division II list. Although I do not have a count of the participants, it is my understanding that there are not very many of us on this list. Because our numbers are few and this list is not too active, please take time to introduce yourself to the other members.

I am the Division chair and work at the National Research & Training Center on Blindness & Low Vision at Mississippi State University and prior to that, worked at VR for the Blind, also in MS. I have belonged to AER since about 1992.

My term as chair ends at the conference this summer. I hope many of the persons on this list will attend.

Again, please introduce yourself to the list. Thanks, a.

HI Everyone,

This is BJ and I work with Adele at the NRTC on Blindness and Low Vision at Mississippi State University.  (The school that almost beat LSA last Saturday night.) Hi Everyone,

My name is Holly Kaczmarski.

I live in Dayton, Washington which is southeastern Washington. After
college, graduating from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah in 1981with
a BS degree in Zoology and Microbiology, I worked for the state of Utah for
three years and then I fell into Property Panagement which took me all over
the western United States.

I worked in this field for several years and lived in Washington, Oregon,
California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. I grew tired of
moving around so I returned to my native state of Washington.

I was living in Walla Walla, Washington at the time and I returned to
college to update my computer skills. I obtained an Associates Degree in
Digital Imaging and Computer Technology. I found it to be very interesting.

While in school there, a blind student needed a reader and I applied for
the job. She liked my teaching style and my personality so I was hired to
be her reader and I ended up being her tutor due to my background in
Biology. I tutored her in Anatomy and Physiology and also other courses.
This led to my involvement with the blindness rehab profession.

She had a guide dog and I asked her if I would be able to join our group,
Guide Dog Users of Washington State and she said that I could join as a
sighted member. I therefore joined GDUWS and worked my way up to be
Treasurer of the organization. I am Treasurer at this time.

Due to my interests in the blindness movement, I joined Washington Council
of the Blind and I am also a member of American Council on the Blind. I
became involved with Pacific Northwest AER due to my interest in working
with blind and low vision adults. I am currently treasurer of PNWAER.

I am currently obtaining a Masters Degree in Blind Rehabilitation and
Assistive Technology. I first enrolled at Western Michigan University, was
sent to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and then I discovered
Mississippi State University where I am attending at this time. I then will
move to Concordia University and complete my Masters Degree there. I will
have a Masters Degree in Blind Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology with
an add-on certificate in BR abd AT from Mississippi State University.
Concordia University is a Lutheran University in Portland, Oregon.

Since I live in south eastern Washington, all of my programs are hybrids in
which I do my work online and then visit campus classes from time to time.
It has been very difficult to do having a family and also working two jobs
but I will make it through and graduate in the summer of 2016.

Long story short, when I obtain my Degree in the field, the Master's
degree, I will be Certified and then be able to work with low vision and
blind adults. I also will be working as a Travel Trainer for a local
transit agency teaching people to learn to ride the fixed-route buses which
will give them more spontaneous lives because they will not have to rely on
a 24 hour advance notice for paratransit rides.

I originally was going to be an O&M instructor but I changed my mind
changing to Blind Rehab which will involve some O&M but mainly Blind Rehab
and Assistive Rechnology which is why I switched from Division 7 to
Division 2. I am also a member of the Aging Division 15. This explains why
I am in your division.

I hope this all makes sense and I hope that I have explained a little bit
about myself. Just for personal information and interest, I have 3 cats
inside the house, one dog inside the house, and six outside kitties who
have two heated igloos on the patio and a heated igloo in the garage and
electric water bowls to keep their water from freezing in the winter time.
They are all very spoiled :-)

I am married, having married 16 years ago, to my husband Byron who is from
North Dakota. He is an Accountant and Controller for an electrical firm in
Dayton Washington. His company installment hours, wiring and power lines
for large companies, and anything to do with electrical systems on the grid.

I am the biologist and graphic designer in the family and he is the
accountant and math person in the family, it works out well :-)

Thank you for your interest and I look forward to being on this committee.

Good morning,

This is John Mascia, President of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind. While my educational background is in audiology, I stumbled into AER because of my involvement with the DeafBlind Community.  I worked at HKNC from 1989- December 2004 and moved to Alabama in January of 2005 to become the Executive Director of the AIDB Gentry Adult Rehabilitation Center. I became President of AIDB in January 2013.

sometime.

I am also enrolled in the Masters of Special Education program at Concordia

Thanks BJ for being a super teacher.

Hi All, it's nice to hear from all of you.
In January, I retired from the Carroll Center for the Blind after thirty-six
years as Director of Admissions, Diabetes Educator, Rehabilitation Nurse,
and Developer for Diabetes and Vision Impairment Online Courses. I currently
provide health consultant home visits for the Colorado Department of
Vocational Rehab.
I have been a member of AAWB and AER Division 2, serving as Chair both for
AER and NEAER. At my first meeting, I became aware that that is the Division
where the goals of most AER members come to fruition. I just wish other
members would see it that way! It was so gratifying to receive the
prestigious John H. McAulay Award during its 2014 international conference.
Best wishes as you develop new leadership, membership, and goals. As my
energies fade, my faith remains with you. Margaret

Great to see such enthusiastic responses to the listserv introduction request!

I am the rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation counseling specializing in blindness and low vision programs coordinator at Western Michigan University. I've had the pleasure of membership and serving in leadership roles with Division 2 since the late '90's. This is a fantastic division with wonderful leaders, mentors, and membership support. I look forward to connecting with Division 2 folks at the international conference in Jacksonville, FL this summer!
