Hello AER Members in Canada:
If you have not yet voted, please do so. One of the positions is the AER Representative from Canada, and you will see my name on the ballot. I hope you will vote for me, and permit me to continue this valuable work.
Below is an excerpt of an email I sent a week ago, which lists my accomplishments on your behalf over the past 2.5 years:

My accomplishments in that time included:

  • An active (instigating) role bringing in the AER Code of Ethics, through my participation on the Code of Ethics Task Force

  • Improved communication amongst Canadian AER members through regional telecom town halls held 2014-15

  • Establishment of this Canadian AER listserve so that announcements and discussions could take place (please use it!)

  • The creation of the Canadian newsletter through a Board motion to establish an Editor position with an attached honorarium

  • Ongoing promotion of and education about Canadian concerns and issues at the Board of Directors level

  • Actively sought Board support for a more international approach to conferences and to building AER awareness and involvement in other countries

  • When the Canadian dollar began to weaken, I worked with the AER office to develop a suitable special incentive/reward for Canadians joining AER

  • No meeting missed from January 2014 to March 2016

When you open the AER voting ballot you will see my name and a brief description there of my current position at CNIB and my future position as Executive Director of Balance for Blind Adults, a visual impairment and rehabilitation service agency in Toronto, which I assume on April 13, 2016.

Take good care,
Deborah

Hello everyone:
Thanks to Deborah for the gentle reminder about the election of your Canadian Representative on the International AER Board.
PLEASE NOTE:  I have been nominated to run for this position as well, and ask that you consider voting for me as your "write in" candidate!
I have been involved in AER since 1994 and have been an active Ontario Board member during this time. I have held positions of President, Membership Chair as well as Member-at-Large and I am passionate about our profession and obviously dedicated to this very important professional organization.
I have some new and innovative ideas for the future of AER in Canada and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and concerns and sharing them at an International level.

I ask you all to consider voting for me as your Canadian Representative, by writing my name down as your "write in" candidate!

Thanks everyone and I am excited that there is a healthy competition for this very valuable position!!!

·        An active (instigating) role bringing in the AER Code of Ethics, through my participation on the Code of Ethics Task Force
·        Improved communication amongst Canadian AER members through regional telecom town halls held 2014-15
·        Establishment of this Canadian AER listserve so that announcements and discussions could take place (please use it!)
·        The creation of the Canadian newsletter through a Board motion to establish an Editor position with an attached honorarium
·        Ongoing promotion of and education about Canadian concerns and issues at the Board of Directors level
·        Actively sought Board support for a more international approach to conferences and to building AER awareness and involvement in other countries
·        When the Canadian dollar began to weaken, I worked with the AER office to develop a suitable special incentive/reward for Canadians joining AER
·        No meeting missed from January 2014 to March 2016

When you open the AER voting ballot you will see my name and a brief description there of my current position at CNIB and my future position as Executive Director of Balance for Blind Adults, a visual impairment and rehabilitation service agency in Toronto, which I assume on April 13, 2016.

Take good care,
Deborah
