Hi,
Here is an update to the proposed MAER Award language. I have also included
below this the first draft I sent earlier this week, the current language in
our manual, and the current language on our nomination form.
MAER AWARD NOMINATION FORM
The MAER Award is intended to commemorate individuals or organizations
working with people who are blind or low vision at the time of an event or
activity to be recognized such as an anniversary, special project, etc.
Previous recipients include Michigan Braille Transcribing Service,
Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (100th anniversary),
Lynnette Norton, Sue Bradley, Michigan School for the Blind, Seedlings
Braille Books, Leader Dogs for the Blind (50th anniversary), and others.
Nomination forms must be complete. In the letter of support section, the
nominator should describe, in detail, the event or activity to be recognized
and the reason for recognizing it.
The Awards Committee will give preference to nominees who are or have been
members of MAER.
Here is what I sent you the first time:
MAER Recognition AWARD NOMINATION FORM
The MAER Recognition Award is to commemorate individuals or organizations
working with people who are blind or low vision at the time of an event or
activity to be recognized such as an anniversary, special project, etc. It
is based more on an individual event rather than a long record of
involvement or activities.
Nomination forms must be complete. In the letter of support section, the
nominator should describe, in detail, the event or activity to be recognized
and the reason for recognizing it.
The Awards Committee will give preference to nominees who are or have been
members of MAER.
Here is what we have currently in our manual.
The MAER Award shall be given to an individual(s) or organization(s) who
has/have made a significant contribution:
To the Field of
Blindness
and/or
In the service of blind and visually impaired persons in
Michigan.
And here is what we currently have on our nomination form.
MAER AWARD NOMINATION FORM

significant contribution to the field of blindness and/or in the service of
persons who are blind and visually impaired in Michigan.
Nomination forms must be complete. In the letter of support section the

the nominee in his or her work with or on behalf of persons who are blind or
visually impaired. Preference will be given to those nominees who
demonstrate activity and achievement, either past or current, in any of the
following: 1) overall professional experiences; 2) innovative practices; 3)
unique or extraordinary contributions to the field; 4) professional
presentations and/or publications; 5) research; and, 6) AER involvement at
the chapter and/or international level. The Awards Committee will give
preference to nominees who are or have been members of MAER.
I like the revised wording from your draft. It seems to me to clearly define
what the award is for and is less verbose than the previous version.
