Crossings With No Traffic Control:
Teaching Concepts and Skills to Deal With Them
WOO HOO! After working on it with the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) for more than 7 years, I’m thrilled to tell you that APH has just come out with a computer program designed to help you teach your students about crossings with no traffic control! This program provides a logical, sequenced approach to teaching what is necessary for people with visual impairments to deal with uncontrolled street crossings.
Independent travelers who are visually impaired need to be able to analyze situations at crossings where there is no traffic control, including recognizing when they don’t have enough warning of approaching vehicles (“Situations of Uncertainty”). The APH software program provides simulation experiences and information that can help you teach your students to analyze these situations, as well as suggestions and videos to help you have them “take the show on the road” and apply what they learned to real-life settings.
Crossings With No Traffic Control can be purchased through the APH shopping site.
