I just spoke to Bobbie Ponder and told her I would forward her the
emails being sent to the list about Ponder. She said it would be great
for his sons to know what a difference he made in his student's lives.
Those of us who were his students felt as if we knew his wife and sons
through the stories he told. It was obvious he loved them.
In lieu of flowers Ponder's family is asking that donations in his
memory be made to the St. Francis Wildlife Association. For those of you
who remember his 'raccoon' story this is the place he brought the animal
to recover and later be released back into the wild. How appropriate. He
would love it.

I was a student at FSU just a few short years ago. Purvis Ponder was an icon of the VI program there. Even though I was not an O & M major I still had Ponder 3 times during my schooling at FSU. "Ponder" was an awesome teacher, with awesome good 'ol southern stories =-) Many days he began class by telling a story that he claimed always started with some degree of nonfiction but became embellished upon as the years went on =-) I learned an immense amount in his classes and am extremely saddened to hear of his passing. I will cherish the memories from "Ponderosa" (for those of you who were there.. I am sure you remember; the rehashing of many tales and the fun evenings!) and my years at FSU. Ponder definately left his mark upon many in the field of vision.
