Hello everyone,

You may have received this as well from ACVREP.  Since the Occupational Indexes are something that the O&M Division has wanted to work on and is listed on our strategic plan, this seems like a good opportunity to collaborate with ACVREP.

We have no control over who they decide to include from those who respond, but we need to make sure that there is a good response from key people in the field. Please share this with good professionals that you feel would be good advocates on behalf of these professions.  Thank you!

Justin Kaiser

O&M Division Chair

ACVREP Certificants  have been asked to help with an important project for the U.S. Department of Labor called ONET (www.onetonline.org). Research Triangle Institute, a non-profit research institution, seeks input from the nation’s most experienced and knowledgeable Low Vision Therapists, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, and Vision Rehabilitation Therapists to ensure the information published at the DOL’s ONET Database remains current and accurate for the benefit of millions.  Will you please consider helping with this initiative on behalf of our organization?

ONET is a free resource and America’s primary source of occupational information that’s accessed by millions of employers, veterans, job seekers, researchers, educators, and students each year for career exploration, workforce development and writing job descriptions for hiring and training.
a.. Do you have at least 5 years of experience as either a Low Vision Therapist, Orientation and Mobility Specialist, and/or Vision Rehabilitation Therapist?
b.. Or, have you moved onto supervise, train, teach or consult within these roles? (Minimum experience is 5 years that includes at least 1 year of practice.)
c.. Note--we understand that titles may differ greatly from company to company and that you may not be called by the titles above. Here are the occupation description and link to the O
NET Database to help you determine if your experience fits this category:
Provide therapy to patients with visual impairments to improve their functioning in daily life activities. May train patients in activities such as computer use, communication skills, or home management skills.https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/29-1122.01
If you have at least 5 years of experience, please email or call Traci Davis at the O*NET Operations Center (tdavis@onet.rti.org or 877-233-7348 ext. 109 to volunteer (provide the information below):
Name:
Daytime Phone number:
Mailing Address/State:
Email address:

Years of experience:

Which role, of the three mentioned above, is your specialty?

The information experts provide about the occupation will be combined with responses from other professionals across the country and become the reference for the work on www.onetonline.org. Contact information submitted by experts will be kept strictly private and your name will not be associated with the aggregate results published at ONET. A random sample of occupational experts responding to this request will be invited to complete ONET questionnaires which will include a certificate of appreciation and $40 in cash as tokens of thanks from the DOL.  Calls to the random sample of experts will begin in early to mid-2018, but please reply to Ms. Davis now to have your name placed on the list of occupation experts.

Thank you very much for your participation to increase the knowledge available about your profession.
Best regards,
Kathie Zeider
President
