Have You Read the September Issue of AccessWorld?

Hello Colleagues,

I hope this email finds all of you well and hanging in there during these
crazy times. Below is a message about focus groups we are holding at AFB.
We are seeking both workers who are sighted and those with visual
impairments
. The information they share will help us better understand the
successes and challenges related to workplace technology use. We need
people employed in three job sectors – communication/IT, telehealth, and
banking/finance. We want a broad section of people in these fields. The
commitment is 1.5-2 hours and those who participate will receive a $25 gift
card.

Please consider sharing this email with those in any of the three job
sectors who are employed. As I noted we don’t just need employees with
visual impairments. We also need employees who are sighted. I’m fond of
saying that the only I want to come to mind for these sighted employees
when they hear “JAWS” is a big shark!

Thanks for your help!
Penny

The Workplace Technology Study

will
examine how people with visual impairments use technology in three fields:

  • Information Technology and Communications
  • Telemedicine
  • Banking and Finance

Information learned will be valuable to companies, technology designers,
and those with visual impairments seeking jobs in these fields. To help us
meet this objective we also need to understand how sighted people use
technology in these fields.

In the first phase of the study, Dr. L. Penny Rosenblum and her team will
be conducting nine (9) focus groups between October and November 2020.

Groups 1-3:
Individuals who are sighted and have no knowledge of accessible workplace
technology

Groups 4-6:
Individuals who use screen reader, VoiceOver, or refreshable braille
technologies

Groups 7-9:
Individuals who use primarily print with or without  screen magnification
technology.

Those who are chosen to participate will meet online for approximately one
and-a-half to two hours. Each participant will receive a $25 Amazon gift
card.
