How to mark answers on braille worksheets

I need an idea for a blind student with good use of only one hand (left) to mark answers on braille worksheets. He is learning braille with Mangold Program. This program has worksheets where he has to mark braille letter that is different in a group of three at this time. I want him to be able to do it independently and then I'll correct the entire page. The program uses pushpins usually, but he is not able to keep place and use pins at same time; same problem with board that he can write on and get raised output.  Any ideas would be helpful.
Thank you,

Suggest marking with crayon.  Then he's marked it in a way that he can tell
what he's marked, and check his own answer before he moves on.

I used to cut up Wikki-Stix into small pieces and stick them under the
student's desk... (sorta like sticking gum underneath the desk; remember
those days?) He could reach under the desk and pull off the pieces he needed
to mark his responses. He could also very easily change the response. Then,
when the test or worksheet was over, the pieces got pulled off the braille
page and stuck back under the desk again for future use.

I like the Wikki-Stix idea!

Could you use a sliding marker to keep his place on the page (ex.
clothes pin) while he is seeking the item he will use to mark the
answer (Wikki-Stix, push pins, etc)? Or perhaps, could you show him
that finding his last "marked" answer gives a cue to where he left off?

A creative paraprofessional used to make her own sticky dots using foams sheets with the sticky back.  Simply use a small paper punch and punch out a bunch of holes.  She removed the paper backing as it is challenging for some of those young fingers to quickly remove the backing.  She placed the sticky dots on a small slick surface so that the student can quickly pull a dot off when needed. (Laminated index card works well as a slick surface to hold the sticky dots.)  The sticky dots will stick better to the braille paper than wiki-stix (which tend to slide as the student's fingers  "check" his work.  The sticky dots can be removed, if the student decides to change his/her answer.  Need to mark different things on the page?  Go to the craft store and buy paper punches with different shapes (stars, triangles, etc.).  You can even choose to buy a package/container of smaller foam shapes with sticky backs.

This is also a great way for TVIs to mark their student's braille work (Example:  Place a sticky dot under a  misspelled word, etc.)

And if you put a screenboard underneath the paper, when the child marks on the paper with a crayon, the texture of the screen comes through so the crayon mark feels bumpy. That way the student can feel the marks even better.

You can make a screen board really easily. Just tape a piece of window screening to a thick piece of cardboard.  You can buy rolls of window screen really inexpensively at Home Depot—just cut it to be a bit smaller of the cardboard -- and use thick masking tape (or that rubbery tape).

They’re also great for kids to put paper on when they color with their friends. And you can use a screenboard with regular paper on top to make quick “tactile graphics” on the fly—if you just need to draw a quick shape kids can feel, or lines they can count, and other quick drawings. Just make sure you press down hard enough on the crayon so the texture of the screen comes through.

I worked with that paraprofessional, too! We ended up sticking the little circles onto the top of the braille writer...easy to find and easy to peel off.

Quoting Sheila Amato brltrans@frontier.com:

I used to cut up Wikki-Stix into small pieces and stick them under
the student's desk... (sorta like sticking gum underneath the desk;
remember those days?) He could reach under the desk and pull off the
pieces he needed to mark his responses. He could also very easily
change the response. Then, when the test or worksheet was over, the
pieces got pulled off the braille page and stuck back under the desk
again for future use.
