Healthcare System Will Remain As-Is: For a While Anyway

This afternoon, the Republicans pulled their bill to create a new healthcare
system that would have kept some elements of the Affordable Care Act
("Obamacare") and eliminated or changed most other elements including
block-granting Medicaid funding to the States to manage the Medicaid program
at their discretion.  There was opposition from moderate and conservative
Republicans and all Democrats, making a successful vote in the House and
approval in the Senate impossible.  This doesn't mean that another attempt
will not happen, but it is unlikely for a while.  It ought to mean that work
will finally get underway to improve and alter some of the imperfections in
the Affordable Care Act, something President Obama continually encouraged.
I urge you to continue to educate yourself and those whom you serve on how
the healthcare system works and to stay ready to contact your Congress
Members and Senators when anything arises where your voice should be heard.
For example, if your representative or Senator is Republican, urge him/her
to work in a bipartisan fashion to improve the ACA if this is your point of
view.  Finally and in this light, please read the AFB Research Navigator you
received earlier today.
