Woodcock Johnson IV large print materials through APH

Hello
This is an informational posting for professionals seeing APH now carrying
large print materials for the Woodcock Johnson IV (achievement battery).  I
was quite excited to learn this as the WJ-III Braille versions (contracted
and uncontracted) were a god-send.  Well, a TVI ordered the LP materials
and I was looking for a district that had the scoring program - no
districts that I work with uses the WJ-IV.  So I called Houghton Mifflin to
ask about paying to score - WELL, in order to use the LP materials that APH
has YOU HAVE TO BUY THE WHOLE TEST KIT from Houghton Mifflin, along with a
fairly costly scoring program.  This is cost prohibitive for a solo
practitioner and for most districts as testing budgets are spread over
years (I might get a call for LP materials 1 or 2 times a year if that).  I
may have to contact other test publishing companies to get permission to
enlarge materials for those test kits that I have but that can take quite a
while to do.

So just wanted TVIs looking to support psychologists with materials to be
sure to ask the district if they have the Woodcock Johnson IV materials in
their districts so that the LP materials can be used - otherwise it makes
no sense to have them...unless the state organizations want to buy a kit
that would be shared, like other materials are loaned but were are talking
about something that is likely over 1000.00 per kit, plus the $399 for 5
protocols and test booklets...

Respectfully,
Terese

Including Lynne Jaffe here so she can explain anything in addition to what
I remember from working on the Third Edition (WJ-3-ACH) in braille a number
of years ago.

It was also required then to have a kit for the print edition.  A special
Compuscore disk was produced for the braille edition.

It was also strongly recommended that examiners have supervised experience
with administering and scoring the print edition, and training in the
administration of standardized assessment instruments.  This is one reason
that (on the third edition) that it was recommended that the braille
edition be administered by teams (a school psych or resource specialist who
would already have those skills) and a TVI who can manage the braille
elements (making sure students were reading on the correct lines, signaling
the examiner as to the accuracy of brailled responses.

Anything more, Lynne?
