BTW, I am giving a presentation at CAOMS with Jerry Kuns about iOS travel apps. Many transit apps are specific to regions like Routesy Pro and Embarc Live in the bay area.NextBus is available in many cities. Uber and Lyft are ideal on the iPhone but good for users to learn on the iPAD as well. If one flies, the airline specific apps are essential. MoneyReader is nice in case you forget to fold your money or if you don’t have the KNFB Reader. Be My Eyes is good for live help when in a hotel room or other place where sighted help is not available.Mike  Hi Maya,Here are my favorites (some of them may be iPhone apps but they will also run on the iPad, just not with the “retina display” resolution) GPS:BlindSquare, Seeing Eye GPS Accessibility:KNFB Reader, VoiceDream Reader, TapTapSee, visor - low vision magnifier, LookTel Recognizer, LookTel MoneyReader Other:Braille Institute Vision Sim, Audio Archery Public Transportation/Route Planning:Transit App, Ride Scout, Google Maps, Apple Maps Here is another list from a blog post "Apps for Independence in the Community and Orientation and Mobility" that gives a bit of a description of each app…http://sensorytravel.com/blog/?p=33 As another note, if you are hoping to use the iPad for GPS as well as other applications, you will want to purchase an iPad with the cellular option. You DO NOT have to activate with any company's cellular plan but it will have the circuitry and components that will allow it to have much better accuracy than the WiFi only version of the iPad. The iPhone and cellular iPad use Assisted GPS that combines information from both satellites and cell towers for location awareness. Hope all works out and you are able to get the iPad,Chris : ) --

I was hoping I could get some suggestions for your favorite apps for anything relating to O&M. Could be games to teach scanning, auditory memory and sequencing, route planning, high contrast maps, talking maps, the sky is the limit! Thanks so much for your suggestions.  Sincerely, Maya D Greenberg, COMSYou are subscribed to the AER OandM Listserv, administered by The Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
