Hi AERnet Colleagues,

Paul Olson and I had a really good conversation last week about the Access
and Engagement study that was conducted in the spring to learn about how
COVID-19 is impacting the education of our students with visual
impairments. Though the video was initially made for COSSB members, we both
felt that it was worth sharing more broadly. In the video (and in our
online material) I report we had 1,764 responses, it actually turned out to
be 1,660. However, have we EVER had this many families and professionals
share their experience about education of our students? So, our team is
really pleased to be analyzing data from 1,660 participants.

The video, with transcript and closed captioning, is available here
https://www.afb.org/research-and-initiatives/education/access-engagement-survey/access-engagement-interview
.

If you’d like to read about the preliminary findings of the study, check
out the Results page here https://www.accessengagement.com/results.html.

We anticipate having a report out at the end of September (give or take).
If you don’t want to miss it, you can sign up to be notified on this form
https://www.afb.org/research-and-initiatives/education/access-engagement-survey/access-engagement-interview
that takes 2 seconds to complete.

I’ll also mention that the report is being finalized for the Flatten
Inaccessibility study that examined the impact of COVID-19 on 1,921 adults
with visual impairments. On this web page
https://www.afb.org/research-and-initiatives/flatten-inaccessibility-survey
you can find information about some of the preliminary results and sign up
to receive notice when the report is available.

And if you’re still reading, thank you to AER’s then President Emily
Coleman and DVIDB’s President Nicole Johnson for the President’s Award. On
behalf of myself and our team (Tina Herzberg, Tiffany Wild, Kathryn
Botsford, Justin Kaiser, Danene Fast, Rett McBride, and Paola Chanes-Mora
along with our volunteer researchers Michelle Hicks, Leanne Cook, and
Jasamyn Nichols DeGrant) THANK YOU! It truly is taking a village to analyze
these data and write the report.

Thanks,
Penny
