Hey ya’ll –
First, thank you to those of you who have responded.
The reason I posted is because I want to provide the most current information to each of these individuals and then offer them contacts and resources b/c they are not sure which profession they want to fully pursue at this time.
Interestingly, two of my colleagues and I are presenting to a local high school tomorrow about B/LV and we are going to use this info to distribute information – but the crazy part is that I searched, and searched and searched for a listing and to be honest, I was so disappointed that no one posts a comprehensive list. Yes, there are a few lists out there, but none are comprehensive nor seemingly up to date – AERBVI has one but only those programs which are “accredited” or “approved” by them, ACVREP posts AER’s list, the TSBVI has a great resource but it is over 3 years old, Dona Sauerburger has a website but not inclusive of all professions, AER offers “flyers” to advertise the professions but is missing CATIS, I found nothing on the CEC’s DVIDB site, no consolidated list on Vision Serve, and so on.

I believe this situation exemplifies why our professions are not easily recognized or recognizable,  promoted nor supported as maybe they could be. When a whole bunch of passionate folks can’t pinpoint what would seemingly be an obvious resource I think there is an opportunity for growth. I do not intend for this email or email chain to be a “rip” on anyone or an agency or an association, etc. – rather I hope it stirs us up as a profession to take care of our own house and improve our recruitment of young people and related professionals to step into the greatest professions of all – LVT, TVI, VRT, O&M, and CATIS.
I’d love to see a basic summation of all the professions within B/LV (a paragraph) and someone to host a comprehensive list of programs distinguishing b/t undergrad, grad, certificate, etc. I think this would be an awesome project to engage.

Respectfully.
Kevin

Northern State University has an undergrad TVI program.  NSU is located directly across from the brand NEW SD School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.  Great opportunities here in Aberdeen SD!

Hey ya’ll!
I have two young people I hired to work in my summer program who want to enter the field.  They have not decided on a specific domain. One is just out of high school and the other has an associates degree. Please email me if you have or know of undergrad prep programs.
Thx!!!
