Hi, all – I’m in the planning stages of doing a presentation for fire department and rescue squad folks from all over the state on effective communication with blind/visually impaired folks and Deaf/hard of hearing folks in emergency situations. Do any of you have resources to share with me?
Thanks in advance,
Sheila

Suggestion -
Ask for a volunteer before all folks arrive. Even during the setting-up
time. This volunteer will be under a sleep shade for whatever timeframe you
decide. Begin with an introduction where each participant speaks -- -
(perhaps their name, rescue squad and the most useful invention in their
lifetime.) Once all have spoken, emphasize the value to that volunteer. (1)
Without embarrassment, they know approx how many folks are present (2)
approx where everyone is located, (3) approx how many women/men/children.
As sighted persons we want to provide the person who's blind every
opportunity to be successful -- and independently so.
