This week dozens of dedicated organizations are sharing why this legislation is needed to strengthen educational services and opportunities for students that are blind, deaf and deafblind. ln spite of significant effort, our states, organizations and local schools struggle with providing an adequate education to give these students the skills needed to succeed in life, This legislation sets the stage for needed improvement. The pandemic has made it even more clear the need for real action.
"The Cogswell-Macy Act needs more support in Congress and you can help make that happen.....
Please contact your member of Congress asking them to support the Cogswell-Macy Act. House Bill H.R.
4822 and Senate Bill S. 2681, Text the word RESIST to 50409. Then follow the directions to send a
message to your Members of Congress."

Hey! This is the text of the email I just sent my representative. I'll be sending similiar emails to both of my Senators.
Dear Ms. Rice,
I am writing to ask you to support the Cogswell-Macy Act, HR4822. I am a teacher of the visually impaired who works to educate children with vision impairment and other disabilities including deafness. The last 20 years have been a particular struggle as my caseload has tripled while administrative support for professional training and a team approach has declined. The Cogswell-Macy Act includes language which will help States to provide professionals with the support they need to provide good services. Please support HR4822. A better education is possible for our kids with hearing and vision loss--let's give them that.
Thank you,Sheila McElhearn, TVI

Sheila,
Thank you for your effort to contact your members of Congress!!! Stories like yours will be what make the difference. A caseload that has tripled is ridiculous. That harms students and professionals like yourself.
Let us know if you receive a response and/or have any further dialogue.
Keep it up!!

Thanks for the update and I did write to my legislators for support. I
wanted to know a couple of things.
Does the Cogswell-Macy Act come with new federal funding for our population?
Is there a way to check to see if my state is receiving these funds or
pursuing / supporting this Act, funding, following these guidelines?
Aloha,
Amy
