question on Nemeth and UEB math

I’m so glad you asked this question. I don’t know how people got the idea that “states choose" a code. That’s absolutely NOT what BANA said. In fact, BANA’s position is the following:

The Braille Authority of North America (BANA) recognizes and appreciates the genuine concerns from the braille community regarding the transition to Unified English Braille (UEB). BANA stands by our original motion to adopt UEB as a complete code as well as the implementation statement issued in 2014 in which we expressed that the Nemeth Code remains integral to braille in the United States. The Board of BANA could not reach consensus regarding the establishment of a single standard code for technical materials for braille in the United States. The decision to use UEB or the Nemeth Code within UEB context for technical materials should be made based on braille readers' individual needs.

This is from a press release in 2015.
BOTH Nemeth and UEB are fully available for use and are both official codes in the US. That means that children CAN learn UEB for math (and everything other subject) and in fact, there are a number of students who are doing so. And, of course, people are also continuing to use Nemeth, which is now embedded within UEB by use of code switch symbols.

Hope this clears up that misunderstanding.

Which states are teaching UEB math? I only know of 2 so curious if anyone else is? Most know BANA states to stick with Nemeth so always wonder how the UEB math goes over when suggested for a student from the district.
