Below is pasted an excerpt from Patricia Leahy, the National Rehabilitation
Association's Legislative advocate, from her January 4, 2017 "Washington
Wire". AER's Legislative Committee will keep you posted on developments as
the new Congress commences its work.  Remember, your voice counts, so if you
have concerns, voice them to your House and Senate representatives.

Legislative Update.

A short time ago, Senator Mike Enzi, (R.WY.) Chairman of the Senate Budget
Committee, introduced a Budget Resolution that is the first step in the
repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which is also known as ObamaCare.

This Resolution includes instructions to Committees of jurisdiction in both
the House and the Senate to repeal the ACA, but does not offer a replacement
plan at this time.  Debate on the Budget Resolution will begin next week.

The Budget Resolution gives "Reconciliation" instructions to the House
Energy and Commerce Committee and the Ways and Means Committee, the Senate
Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions
(HELP) Committee to find $1 BILLION

in deficit reduction from fiscal year 2017 through 2026.  These Committees
have until January 27, 2017, to draft "Reconciliation" bills which will be
considered by the full U.S. Senate and the full U.S. House of
Representatives.

These "Reconciliation" bills will include the details of a repeal, including
how long it will take to replace the ACA, and exactly what parts of the ACA
will be repealed.

Whatever ultimately emerges from this process will be subject to the close
scrutiny of the Senate Parliamentarian to ensure it complies with the Rules
of Budget Reconciliation.
