Education and Advocacy Summit – You are Invited!

You are invited to an Education and Advocacy Summit hosted by the American Foundation for the Blind, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, Gallaudet University Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the National Association of the Deaf. The events will occur February 27 and 28, 2018 in Washington, DC.

This Summit is for:

  • advocates (parents and education professionals) concerned about education for students who are deaf, blind, and deafblind, and
  • high school students who are deaf, blind, or deafblind.

Summit events include training workshops for parents and professionals, leadership training for students, a Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, and a tour of Gallaudet University.

The FREE Education and Advocacy Summit consists of three components:

  • February 27, morning, Gallaudet University Tour for interested parents, professionals and high school students (sponsored by Gallaudet University Visitor’s Center).
  • February 27, afternoon, Educational Summit:
    *  Workshops for parents and education professionals in the areas of policy, best practices, and innovation (sponsored by Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center with support from other sponsors).
    *  Workshops for high school students in advocacy and leadership (sponsored by Gallaudet University Visitor's Center, organized by Government & Public Affairs and Deaf Studies Faculty with support from other sponsors).
  • February 28, all day: Capitol Hill Advocacy Day: legislative briefing on advocacy issues (for professionals and high school students), then meetings with Congressional representatives (sponsored by Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf, and American Foundation for the Blind).

You may attend one, two, or all three events. The full agenda will be coming soon.
