Hi, all – after being retired for 8 years, I have some catching up to do. What book or materials is/are used now to teach UEB to an adult who has been a print reader but is losing vision and wants to learn braille? Is there a UEB equivalent of the Braille Connection that I used to use?

The only adult program I know of for sure that’s in UEB is the “McDuffy Reader” materials from NFB. My understanding is that APH has asked NFB to update “The Braille Connection” and that it’s in progress.

For my adult learner, I used the UEB-updated "Braille Too: Next Generation” and just revised the materials so they were more age appropriate. I like the sequence that the contractions are introduced for former print readers, and the variety of materials that are included. But since BT:TNG was designed for high school students (and middle), I had to change the materials somewhat to make them more “adult” —but that’s easy to do since you get a flashdrive that has the materials as .DOC and DXB files so they’re extremely adaptable. My students really enjoyed these.
I rarely use any materials without individualizing them anyway--and knowing you, Sheila, I’m sure you’re the same!—and BT:TNG made it easy.
Hope this helps!
