Secretary of Education Nominee: Betsy DeVos

The attached for your information is from Politico. Ms. DeVos is reported to
have once championed the Common Core curriculum but now states she does not,
because under federal control she says it has become a "boondoggle".  She is
noted for championing private school options for K-12.  In a separate
article, the writer states Ms. DeVos owns K-12, Inc. and exhorts her to
divest as she should not be confirmed when she is in a position to profit
personally from her public policy decisions.  Our questions might include:
Would there be a differential influence on schools for the blind that are
privately run versus those which are State-run or would block grants to the
States for charter and other types of alternative schools benefit all?  And,
most important, if Ms. DeVos policy decisions dilute the ability of public
schools to accomplish their mission, would not specialized services to
students with disabilities including blind/visually impaired ones be among
the first to suffer? Comments welcome.
