I’m working with a six-year-old with ONH. He’s learning braille, but he can also read very large print, around 72 point, using a CCTV. His mother asked me if there’s any advantage to using large print books with the CCTV. Will the image be clearer than with standard size print? Does anybody have any experience with this?
Using large print on a CCTV can be easier first of all there are fewer words on each line so tracking is easier secondly there is a little more space between each letter so putting words together can be easier as well and you don't need near as much magnification from the CCTV

When conducting LMA's, I've found LP to be too large on a CCTV. It really impacted students fluency because of the amount of print they were able to view. They also had to adjust the text quite a bit to view a line and therefore lost their place.

The whole purpose of a CCTV is to enlarge the print. Depending on the quality of the CCTV - HD, color settings and such it should be all the magnification the student needs. However if he is reading 72 pt the CCTV might be helpful for looking at a short statement but it is not useful for reading. At that size the student is generally having to struggle to figure out each word and by the time they move to the next few words in the sentence they have forgotten the first words.

Hello!
If the large print book is any larger than a standard 11 1/2 x 8 inch paper
it will not properly fit under the CCTV and LP books are difficult for
little hands to control. At 72 point font Reading fluency is already
significantly impacted even for the best of readers.
I would put my efforts into braille fluency and listening skills, using the
CCTV as supplemental tool. I had a dual media student who completed all of
his literary work in braille and completed math work using his CCTV. Even
though he knew Nemeth, but he grasped math concepts much easier using his
CCTV.
Sounds like a fun student to work with!

It is my opinion that 72 point with a CCTV would not be fast enough for even emergent readers. I think you should only consider this as a very interim measure. As to resolution issues of LP and regular print, I am clueless. However, I think that they will be the same if you enlarger regular print. Bill
