I am in the process of re-evaluating a student who is totally blind,
in transition functional education program (about age 20-21), and has
moderate-severe cognitive impairment. I worked with him some last
school year before schools closed and found very short limited
response to items I introduced for him to do while class was watching
movies after days out in community. The students in this class are out
in the community most of the time.
My question: Is it appropriate to discontinue my services as a teacher
of the visually impaired at this time? even discontinue consult
services and materials support (which have been done for a few years
now)? I don't see the purpose of my services at this time, especially
since his current teacher knows accommodations for his blindness. If
you do recommend to continue my VI services, what role would I play?
What have other teachers of the visually impaired done in similar
situation?
