I am looking for 2 adults with low vision to help on a project and the adults will be compensated for their time.

ObjectiveEd won a grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research to build a game to teach pre-employment transitions skills.

The game is called Transition Adventure and is an Interactive Fiction Game.  This is an audio “choose your own adventure game” that enables pre-ETS students to practice skills such as self-advocacy, independent living and problem solving.  Our game is a 5-chapter story, starting out with a student learning that there’s a summer job that they want.  The student must apply for the job, pass a job interview on the phone and in-person, and learn how to perform their first day on the job.

Dr Karla Antonelli, Kim Charlson, Director of the Perkins Library and Ashley Colburn, a VRT at the Carroll Center, Brian Charlson, former Director of Technology at the Carroll Center, assisted with the story creation. Research is coordinated by Dr. Penny Rosenblum, Director of Research at the American Foundation for the Blind.

We are now ready to develop a variant of this game, but we will focus on teens with low vision.  We want to work with successful low vision adults to guide us in the changes to the story.  The adults will first play the game on an iPad or iPhone, and then will talk with our Interactive Fiction writers for an hour or two so they learn what must change.  After that, the adults will join a 10:00 ET Tuesday meeting each week to suggest changes to the story as it is developed.

Thanks,

Marty Schultz
