Dear AER Members:
The Standardized Text Committee of the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) has authored a document titled “Guidelines for Production of Standardized Tests in Braille.” This document is designed primarily for transcribers, but also to meet the needs of braille readers, educators, and other constituents who use these types of materials. The authors’ goal is to present a user-friendly document that will support the needs of its users.
The draft is currently going through a first-round technical review by BANA’s technical committees. It has been carefully prepared by the committee and will also be copy-edited before publication, so please do not feel that you would need to “wordsmith” the document. We are asking that you complete a survey that will allow you to rate the contents and make comments regarding:
- clarity of concepts presented
- use of vocabulary or terms that need further explanation
- user-friendliness of the content, including the examples
If you have a background in assessment, braille transcription, teaching and assessing students or clients who are braille readers, or providing accessible materials, I invite you to review this draft and provide feedback that will help us finalize and publish these guidelines.
This is a fairly concise 27-page document. Feedback needs to be returned to me by July 20. If you are interested, please contact me at this email address.
Thanks so much,
Mary Nelle
