In the first episode of It's My Job, Mohammed, a student from the US Virgin Islands, interviews AER's Interim Executive Director, Mark Richert!
Check it out on YouTube at this link: https://youtu.be/tCjsvOnIHBg

The goal of It's My Job is to make use of working-from-home time for professionals and K-12 students to develop interesting content for the career-awareness segment of the ECC. Students, parents, and professionals can review and engage with the podcast from home during and after the pandemic.

In Episode One, after interviewing Mark, we explain how you can get involved.

In particular, we need help recruiting student interviewers. The process is very easy!

  1. We obtain parent/guardian consent for a student's participation (several ways to do this).
  2. Given a little background information about the interviewee, the student works with his/her parent or teacher to develop 10 interview questions.
  3. We send the questions to the interviewee and arrange a date and time to meet on Zoom.
  4. The student can have a practice session with Zoom (there are several ways to connect to Zoom depending on the student's technology skills and needs).
  5. We meet in Zoom and record the interview (about 15 minutes). Optionally, teachers or parents can be co-interviewers with their students (our focus is on interview questions are selected by students, for students). The interviews may conclude with some questions from the interviewee for the interviewer.
  6. The interview is edited, an intro and closing are added, the interview is captioned, and we upload the final version to YouTube and Facebook. (Would love volunteers to help with this too!)

Other students, parents, and professionals can ask questions and comment using any of the strategies below. Interested students may have opportunities to blog about their podcasting experience through Perkins' Paths to Technology blog.

To ask questions, suggest topics, or find out more about how to become an interviewer or interviewee, contact us using any of these resources set up for the podcast (or just email me!):

Thanks in advance for supporting this fun remote learning opportunity!
