In answer to the question from Kim Lovett about students' use the monocular
to view moving targets, it helps me to think of the typical moving targets
students would need to access.  This will depend on the age of the student,
but some ideas include viewing:

  • sporting events
  • traffic patterns (for street crossing)
  • wildlife
  • a lesson demonstration in front of a classroom
  • the teacher writing on the board
  • actors in a play
  • other children on the playground (to find a friend)
  • kites
  • people-watching

Chapter 5 in Looking to Learn (AFB Press) includes a chart with many
activities for monocular telescopes.
